What’s your favorite tomato variety? I’ve been asked that many, many times. How to choose one?!
There are many things to consider when selecting a tomato variety for your veggie garden: size, color, flavor, small plant for containers. There are sooooo many differences between tomato varieties, it’s hard to pick one.
But if I had to pick just one tomato variety…..it would be ‘Sungold’.

‘Sungold’ is an orange-colored, non-GMO, cherry-size tomato that is truly theeeee sweetest tomato variety there ever has been. Non-red tomatoes (e.g. orange, yellow) tend to have a lower acid content, and are therefore sweeter tasting.
You will (should!) gets hundreds (emphasis on the plural!) of tomatoes on a plant that should grow to well over 6 feet tall. Watch for orange-cherry imitation varieties like ‘Sunsugar,’ which is not as good. Trust me.
Of course, my favorite may not necessarily be your favorite, but from all of my years working in nurseries, year after year, ‘Sungold’ was always the best selling variety. Yes if I had just one variety of tomato to plant it would be ‘Sungold.’
Enjoy, Chuck
